You’re ready to meet with a designer to discuss your ideas for remodeling your bathroom. You know you want something clean, sleek, and modern but that is also a warm, inviting retreat after a long day. Sometimes it can be difficult to blend the straight lines of modern design with the homey feel you seek, but our design team at Booher Remodeling Company in Indianapolis comes prepared to help you do just that.
Consider these six tips that we find help homeowners marry that blend of modern taste with the comforts of home.
1. Go neutral.
Many modern bathroom features are white and airy. But instead of doing everything a stark white everywhere, you can choose a few features to bring in a warming neutral color like a gray, beige, or tan. Many people choose these colors either for their walls, bathroom vanity, or even floor tile. You don’t want to go too crazy with color in order to preserve the modern touch, so play around with neutrals and see what happens.
2. Consider concrete.
From countertops to floors, you can find a bit of concrete in many modern bathrooms these days. And why not? Concrete offers a unique, modern, and industrial feel that pairs well with more inviting elements like wood, natural stone, or even decorative foliage.
3. Include both tub and shower.
According to Freshome.com, modern bathroom design doesn’t choose either a tub or a shower (and definitely not that fiberglass bathtub/shower combo you can find in about any home-improvement store). Instead, choose both. Install a freestanding modern bathtub as well as a separate walk-in shower.
4. Think straight.
Whereas traditional home design often features more ornate or curvy elements, modern design highlights straight, clean, and simple features.
5. Choose a statement piece.
Whether you purchase a unique chandelier to hang above your bathtub or you do a floor-to-ceiling subway tile feature wall, you want at least one design element that’s your “wow” piece.
6. Wood wins.
Choosing some wood elements for your bathroom is a very modern thing to do. Plus, it adds that layer of warmth you want. You may consider some floating bamboo shelves or even a natural wood vanity top. You have many options. However, due to all the water and moisture in bathrooms, we do recommend that you stay away from traditional hardwood floors. You don’t want to invest all that money only to see them warp.

Duncan did a superior job navigating us through our kitchen rebuild and remodel project. He gets an A+. He was always available and always checked back with us as the project progressed. The entire staff was very well informed and professional in their duties. We can recommend Booher as a company that does high quality and timely work. Ask for Duncan, you won't go wrong.
We enjoyed working with Duncan and his crew. Everything went smoothly and any issues we did run into Duncan took care of them right away. Thanks to everyone at Booher and a shout out to Rocky for doing a great job installing the appliances.
I hired Booher to remodel my kitchen, powder room, and master bathroom. From the selection process to the end of the project, I was pleased with how everything worked out. Gary, the project manager, kept in touch with me regularly via text and onsite visits to provide updates and get clarification when there were questions. I am very pleased with the results.
Very impressed with their whole process. We had a room, an entryway and hallway remodeled. They replaced the floors, sub-floors , drywall and replace 6 new doors. Job was great and on time like clock work. They worked with us throughout the job. When the need arises again, we will be using Booher for sure.
We just had our kitchen remodelled and they did a fantastic job. From design to installation was fantastic. Jason and his crew were friendly, and kept us informed of what they were doing. We will definitely have them back to do our bathroom when it's time.
Had Booher remodel our two bathrooms. Didn’t redesign anything, just replaced outdated fixtures etc.
Entire process was not good. Had them come out to give us estimate, get the estimate, ok it , get called back next day to say they miscalculated something, would be another $600. Should have been a red flag but we figured mistakes happen and the reviews are good.
Go through the process of picking everything out from their vendors. For the most part went ok. Project scheduled to start so meeting set up with project manager at our home at 4 pm. Wife and I both make sure to get off early to be there. Nobody shows up so we call office and are told project manager forgot. He shows up at 5:30 not knowing we talked to office. Tells us he was with another client and got held up. Great way to start a project!
We only have these two bathrooms in house and had been told we would have use of one or the other throughout the project. Project manager knew nothing about this and said both were scheduled to be done at same time. We explained this wasn’t possible since we needed access to one. Was told he would take care of it.
Next day get a phone call telling us would be another $600 since they were doing them separately. Person whom we discussed this with during planning “didn’t recall” doing them separately and contract was not specific. We should have canceled contract at this point and just forfeited deposit but didn’t. Big regret.
Construction finally starts, first day went well, crew there all day to demo first bathroom. After that everything slows to a snails pace. Booher mainly used sub contractors which was fine, but on average about 45 minutes of work done per day over first several weeks. Took 3 entire months to finish two bathrooms. Again no redesign, just replaced existing fixtures and floors.
Our project manager quit working for Booher halfway through project, things went slightly better after that.
Beware of allowances on everything, Booher charged about 25% more than retail price at Lowe’s for most everything when using there suppliers.
Overall was just a very disappointing experience. Not sure how all these reviews are so positive.
We contracted with Booher Remodeling Company to remodel our kitchen. Every step of the way we were impressed with the professionalism that was displayed by the Booher staff. We had a few minor issues during construction but expected that as part of the process. Booher promptly addressed every issue and all were resolved to our satisfaction. The project schedule that was given to us was very helpful and they adhered to it all the way through. We are very happy with the final product and would definitely contract with Booher on a future project.
We worked with Booher on two large projects, a complete redo of the basement and a kitchen/complete 1st floor remodel and new carpet in all rooms upstairs. Jason was great to work with and all staff and workers were great. I would recommend them.
We had Booher remodel our master bath and remodel our attic to add another master closet and a sitting room. The work was finished in April and I love this addition more every day. I think it was an excellent investment and I am so glad we did it.
Fantastic service and quality on our kitchen and bath. Customer oriented business and they aimed to please. Cost was reasonable compared to other companies. They estimated and planned very well and the level of communication was excellent. We are very happy with the results and would absolutely recommend them.
I highly recommend Booher Remodeling. I wanted an ADA bathroom and of the half dozen people I had in, they were the ones that seemed to understand what I wanted. They were professional, on time, and wonderful people to work with. They kept me informed at all times as to what was going on and made sure it was acceptable to me. I don't know how they did it but we ended up with a larger shower, larger water closet and larger clothes closet! We are very happy with our new bathroom.
Booher Remodeling is an Excellent Company! This is our 2nd Project they have completed. We had our Bathroom and Kitchen flooring removed and replaced with a Beautiful new updated flooring, all new trim and shoe moldings, all new water lines for the sinks, and washer, installed new access panel for shutoff valves in the Laundry area, painting of walls and baseboards.
The Employees, Management, Office Personnel and the Owner Represent a #1 Company. Thank you for your Services.
We are so very pleased with our newly-remodeled and more accessible bathroom! Booher Remodeling staff have been extremely professional, helpful, and friendly, from our initial meeting to the final sign-off. The demo and drywall crews, tiler, plumbers, electrician, and painters did superb work. Even the suppliers we dealt with had nothing but great things to say about Booher. A special hats-off to our project manager, Daniel Trusty, who went above and beyond.
