After you’ve gone through all the work of a complete bathroom remodel, you probably want it to stay nice and clean without too much maintenance. Typically, homeowners don’t want to spend all their time cleaning, but did you know there are specific design choices you can make to keep you bathroom clean? At Booher Remodeling Company, we love designing spaces that work best for our clients, so here are three things you can do during your bathroom remodel to make it easy to clean.

How to Design a Bathroom That Is Easy to Clean

1. Choose Larger Tiles

Anyone who has attempted to keep a bathroom sparkling clean knows that grout is tricky to clean. So, instead of finding ways to keep grout clean, we recommend simply using less of it. By choosing larger tiles, you can use fewer tiles and therefore less grout! Additionally, by choosing porcelain tiles, you can place the tiles closer together, minimizing the amount of grout even further. After you’ve selected your tiles, choose a high-quality grout that has built-in sealers and is mildew- and dirt-resistant.

2. Avoid Nooks and Crannies

The next piece of the bathroom puzzle is cabinetry. As you consider different door styles, picture yourself trying to clean them. You’ll want to avoid doors with lots of nooks and crannies that will collect dust and require a Q-tip to clean. Instead, consider a flat slab door with a nice piece of hardware so your bathroom cabinets are easy to just wipe down – no Q-tips needed!

3. Research Your Countertops

Finally, if you truly want a bathroom that is easy to maintain, you definitely need to do some research before choosing a countertop. Many homeowners choose countertops based on looks alone and forget that some products require regular maintenance. For example, natural stone products like granite or marble are a lot harder to take care of than a product like quartz. Also, when you make your sink selection, find one that can be installed under the countertop rather than on top of it, to avoid creating extra crevices.
