How to Remodel Your Kitchen in Phases: Part Two

A full kitchen remodel can be a big undertaking for a homeowner. It can be expensive and inconvenient, and not every homeowner can handle the whole project all at once. That’s why our team at Booher Remodeling Company suggests completing your kitchen remodel in phases. In our previous post, we discussed how to plan and budget for your kitchen design. Today, we’ll look at the order of tackling each remodel phase and how to group projects for efficiency, so that you ultimately will achieve your desired outcome.

Cabinets and Countertops

A good place to start is with your countertops and cabinets; however, it is a big job. If you want to split up the work, start with the upper cabinets only, as this shouldn’t render your kitchen unusable. Then, move on to your lower cabinets and countertops when your budget allows. The replacement of these elements will temporarily interrupt the use of your kitchen because the plumbing and electricity will need be to disconnected. However, it should only take a day or two. This is also the logical time for you to consider replacing your sinks and faucets.

Appliances

New appliances can be installed whenever they fit into your budget. Replacing your refrigerator or stove won’t take much time, and won’t render your kitchen unusable for any significant amount of time. So, we recommend completing this phase when it makes sense for you personally.

Flooring

The next phase of your kitchen remodel is the flooring. Renovation of existing wood, tile, or vinyl flooring can often be completed in a day or two. And, if you’re doing the work yourself, you can complete the job in a weekend, whenever your budget allows.

Accents and Design Elements

Your final step to the kitchen of your dreams is to install backsplash, replace window treatments, update lighting, and add any other design elements you desire. The great part about these final touches is that they can be added at anytime, without disruption of your kitchen and without much work. So, we encourage you to take your time to save up for the products that will complete your ultimate dream kitchen.

Don’t let the fear of a big project stop you from getting the kitchen of your dreams. At Booher, our team can work with you to complete your kitchen remodel within your budget and on your time table. Contact us today at (317) 852-5546 to request a free consultation in the Indianapolis area.
