How to Make Your Bathroom Eco-Friendly

If you’re planning to remodel your bathroom this fall, a great thing to keep in mind is how you can update it to make it more eco-friendly. There are many “green” things you can incorporate into your bathroom that will not only appeal to future buyers but also save you money in utilities in the long run. Of course, much of bathroom energy waste can be resolved with water conservation options, but our team at Booher Remodeling Company has added a few other ways you can make your bathroom better for the environment.

Water Conservation

An obvious way to save money and save the planet is to conserve water. We recommend installing low-flow fixtures for your toilets, faucets, and showers. However, there are also some ways you can be conserving water that don’t involve remodeling. Start by making sure none of your fixtures are leaking. It may seem like only a small amount of water wasted, but it adds up quickly. Also, choose to take quick showers instead of baths, or skip the shower altogether if you don’t really need it. Finally, while you’re waiting for your shower water to get hot, don’t let that water go down the drain! Instead, use it to fill up a bucket to use for other purposes around your house, such as watering plants.

Energy Conservation

A great way to conserve energy is by installing an efficient water heater. Did you know that heating water in your water heater accounts for 20% of your home’s energy costs? Try to find a tankless option, and check Consumer Reports to find the best eco-friendly model. If replacing your water heater isn’t an option, turn your current water heater down from 140 degrees to 120 degrees to save energy. Finally, replace all of your light bulbs with energy efficient LED bulbs.

Green Material Selections

Work with the expert design team at Booher to make environmentally friendly choices when choosing your new bathroom materials. It may take a little more effort and research, but you’ll be glad you put in the time when you’re able to select countertops, tile, flooring, vanities, and other finishes that are good for the planet. At Booher Remodeling Company, we enjoy working with our clients who want to make earth-friendly choices during their remodeling process.
